I’m Commander Shepard, and I’m open to work
In a startling piece of news, Electronic Arts has announced that it’s shutting down famed games developer BioWare.
The news comes from Bloomberg, and confirmed by BioWare and EA. The shuttering will mean that 400 jobs will also be lost, as the parent company downsizes after being recently purchased.
For more than 30 years, BioWare developed some of our favorite games, including massive RPGs like Baldur’s Gate and Knights of the Old Republic. It was perhaps the company’s Mass Effect series that put it on my personal radar. I became an avid fan of the games, and cite them today in just technological conversations — the discussions in the games about what artificial intelligence is are incredibly prescient today.

The company had at least one game in development, a new Mass Effect game, and was working alongside other EA studios on various projects.
